Marshmallow Madness

I first read about it in the New York Times...marshmallows are taking over Manhattan.  And like other trends that start in NYC, it takes awhile, but the trend soon arrives in the UK.  I haven't seen too many signs of marshmallows infiltrating London yet, but this new cookbook is a good sign that these little puffs will soon be hitting our shelves.  It's Marshmallow Madness by Shauna Sever.

published by Quirk Books, 2012, £11.99

Shauna Sever writes the blog Piece of Cake and  her new book shows us that making marshmallows from scratch is just that.

Marshmallow Madness is a tip-top tutorial on marshmallows.  Every step is explained in detail and every recipe is laid out so you can follow the three steps easily - the bloom, the syrup and the mallowing.

After reading this book, I can understand why gourmet marshmallows are a growing trend.  It's because they're extremely versatile.  I never realized just how much you could do with a marshmallow.  For example, margarita marshmallows?

And marshmallow cones?  For a children's birthday party, these would be a lot less messy than ice cream.

I'm not going to resist the marshmallow invasion when it hits the shores of the UK.  Armed with an offset spatula, an 8 x 8-inch pan, and these fantastic recipes, I shall be joining in the madness.
