Fifty Shades

I haven't read the smash hit of 2012 - Fifty Shades of Grey - but have seen plenty of women clutching the book on my commute. I suppose a few pages of 50 Shades helps take them away from the grind of delays, traffic jams, and short tempers. But you need not have read the novel in order to laugh at the parody of Fifty Shades of Chicken.

published by Clarkson Potter, 2012, £12.99

Guessing from the mileage of twine used throughout the the recipes, the original novel apparently discusses techniques for binding that obviously work well for trussing a chicken.

It's easy to laugh off this cookbook, but the recipes are so tantalizing that it's really no joke. If you are a fan of the bird, these chicken recipes will really satisfy.

The prose interspersed throughout the book is a send up of the original; told from the point of view of the chicken. The suggestively titled recipes will make you laugh and blush simultaneously. How can you keep a straight face over "Chicken with a Lardon" otherwise known as Roasted Chicken with Bacon and Sweet Paprika?

Whether it's thighs, breasts or legs, Fifty Shades of Chicken will dominate your dinner plate.

  1. Having read the 50 Shades books, I can well understand why this book would involve a lot of twine! There are some great parodies out there and this sounds like a really fun take. :)

    1. Hi Susie, told from the perspective of the chicken, this book is a good laugh. And to have smashing recipes on top of it is a real bonus. Great to hear from you!
