Have you had enough of the horse meat stories that are flooding the airwaves in the UK? Do you find yourself raising an eyebrow in suspicion at those meatballs in your refrigerator? Maybe it's time to take a time out from meat for a little while.
At times like these when you don't want to risk finding horse meat in your lasagne, it's an ideal time to rediscover grains and vegetables. Heidi Swanson has been cooking with them and writing about them in her perennially popular blog, 101 Cookbooks. Super Natural Every Day is her most recent cookbook and it's a visual reminder of just how enticing grains and veggies can be.

This cookbook is what I would call modern vegetarian. The author introduces you to interesting flavors and ingredients not found in your bog standard vegetarian cookbooks through her recipes like Broccoli Gribiche or Black Pepper Tempeh.
The recipes are pragmatically arranged from dawn to dusk, breakfast to dinner and everything in between. By the time you get to the end of the day with Heidi's recipes you'll be saying "Meat? What meat?!?"
Recipes to help you forget about meat include:
- Yoghurt Scones
- Baked Porridge
- Chickpea Wraps
- Summer Linguine
- Wild Rice Casserole

I follow the blog 101 Cookbooks but just haven't ordered the cookbook.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the easy to prepare recipes that are bursting with healthy ingredients. With spring so close on the horizon it would be a perfect time to try this book!
…especially with all of that lovely California produce you have on your doorstep, Deb. Enjoy!
